This rune remembers successful Ghost Step dodges and shadow clone events after the rune has been purchased. Old tricks do not darken the afterimage. The shadow starts counting when the rune is earned. As the Black Afterimage grows, a missed strike may leave the enemy surrounded by false Ninjas until one shadow becomes real. In combat, the rune may awaken Shadow Sever, a sudden killing line cut from the space where the Ninja no longer stands. Harder marks resist the severing edge better. Ghost Step and clone events may also wake short afterimage surges, briefly sharpening the Ninja's retaliation or evasive rhythm.
